Dade City Commissioners agreed by a vote of 4-1 to approve the design-build contract for the proposed amphitheater during their meeting on May 12. Mayor Pro Tem Normita “Angel” Woodard was the only Commissioner voting against amending the contract presented by Borregard Construction, Inc.
Plans call for the amphitheater to be constructed in Veterans Park, which is located at the intersection of Church Avenue and 10th Street. The amount of the contract was $269,277.60. Plans call for the outdoor amphitheater to be built to the rear of the Veterans Park Restroom/Maintenance building.
Key features would include a concrete slab for the stage, a commercial-grade hurricane-resistant metal roof and additional 120V power outlets installed on the sides of the existing building. “It’s important to get it done. We need to do it well. We need to do it right. If we’re going to do it for one area, we need to do it for other areas (referring to the James Irvin Civic Center),” Woodard said regarding the construction of the proposed amphitheater.
Mayor Scott Black said he thought that the proposed amphitheater would be “a good investment in our community.” “The longer we wait, the more the price will go up,” Shive said regarding the cost of the proposed amphitheater. “Our community deserves better,” Woodard said after the Commissioners voted on Borregard’s contract amendment.
In other business on Tuesday, several Proclamations were presented. They were for Older Americans Month; GFWC Women’s Club – marking that Club’s 100th anniversary; National Police Week; National Public Works Week; and National Hospital Week. ♥
