Zephyrhills Elks awards, Stacy Hester, Citizen of the Year

Solo Moms Recovery and Healing Founder/Director awarded for her unwavering service to women and children.

Stacy Hester was born and raised in Zephyrhills and is proud to give back to the community that she feels shaped her. Hester started helping single moms survive domestic violence and addiction in 2012. This faith-based community provides comprehensive restoration for single mothers and their children escaping human trafficking, domestic violence, and complex trauma.

Hester’s journey has been difficult yet rewarding. The story began with one mom who came into her home. This experience grew into more moms forming the Soaring Sisters in Christ group and venturing into a non-profit organization under the wings of Tampa Underground by April 24, 2016.

The Zephyrhills Elks lodge has contributed to the cost of their building as well as Christmas presents. These are the partnerships that build community.

“During difficult times, your Christmas blessings provided our families with immense joy,” said Hester. “Therefore, receiving the Citizen of the Year award is an honor that fills most with both humility and inspiration.”

Solo Mom’s mission is to Rescue, Restore, and Rebuild. In that journey Hester has faced many challenging situations like corrupt systems, working to expose what fails vulnerable women and children.

“She believed in herself when no one else did, and in that quiet confidence, she became unstoppable,” said Lisa Hacker. “Not only that, but she also believes in all of us single moms!”

Hester speaks of many who have taken part and helped manifest her dreams. Bob, a single father of five, shared his wisdom that was “truly invaluable.” Larry Guildford from Make a Difference envisioned more, sharing the dreams of Solo Moms. He was instrumental in the purchase of a building, The Healing Hub, which has created a safe place for single moms, their children and foster children.

Hester is a strong advocate for justice against trafficking and the rights of these women and children. “I accept this award not as a personal achievement, but as recognition of what is possible when a community unites,” said Hester. “And when divine influence works through willing participants. Women who once had nowhere to turn have found belonging, purpose, and healing among us.”

Hester found herself caring for two children rescued from severe trauma and speaks of their transformation as “wounded children to joyful helpers.” They laugh, learned courage, trust, love, and hope again,” said Hester.

“Her unwavering commitment to service shines like a beacon in our community, guiding others with compassion and selflessness,” said Amanda Evans. “Through her actions, she teaches us that true leadership is not just about making a difference, but about empowering others to find their own strength and voice.”

The speech ends with words of thanks to the moms she served, and community partners who have been generous to the moms and children. “I will always have your back.”

“The smiles of children are a testament to your impact, providing moments of joy they might otherwise never experience,” closed Hester.
