Borregard Construction, Inc. awarded contract for Amphitheater

Dade City City Commissioners approved a contract on Oct. 28 with Borregard Construction, Inc. for the design and construction of an Amphitheater at a city park located at the intersection of Church Avenue and 10th Street.

“The proposed amphitheater will serve as a vibrant community gathering space, hosting concerts, movie nights, live performances, and a variety of entertainment events.  “This venue will not only enhance local cultural experiences but also foster community engagement and economic growth by attracting visitors and supporting local businesses,” City records said. It’s anticipated that the Amphitheater will be completed within 10 months after approval by City Commission and written notice of the selected design option.

Borregard will receive $197,300 for the project, $175,000 of which was included in the City’s fiscal year 2024-2025 Capital Budget. Borregard is the same contractor that built the Splashpad at the 2.3-acre park, which will likely be named Veterans Park at the Commissioners’ next meeting on Dec. 10.  That will occur if Commissioners adopt a formal resolution presented to them at that time by City Manager Marieke vanErven. Fifty-eight students had recommended that name for the park, while about 20 fewer students had favored the name of Patriots Park.

In other business on Oct. 28, Commissioners approved the first reading of two proposed ordinances for West Hill Estates.Public hearings were held for both ordinances.

The first ordinance calls for a Large Scale Comprehensive Plan Amendment on 68.67 acres of property located on the south side of St. Joe Road. That ordinance needed to be transmitted to Florida’s Department of Commerce for their review before the City could hold a second reading on it and possibly adopt it.

The second proposed ordinance, if adopted, would change the zoning of that property from Pasco County’s Residential 1 (R1) District (R1) to Dade City’s Single Family Residential (RS-1) District.

The applicant for West Hills Estates plans to construct 55 single-family homes on the property, according to information provided in the proposed ordinances.

Also on Oct. 28, Commissioners approved the purchase of a vactor truck for the City’s Public Works Department. The truck, which costs $627,795, including a yearly maintenance contract, will be used to support stormwater management activities.

“Historically, the City has relied on Pasco County to provide vactor truck assistance for pumping stormwater from ponds, roadways, and other impacted areas. This dependency has often resulted in delays during critical response times,” City records said.
