MAIN STREET ZEPHYRHILLS Home Theater Renewal Discussed

Initial conceptual renderings were unveiled during a special meeting of the Zephyrhills Community Development Agency (CRA) on March 9, 2026. Built in 1948, it was billed as one of the most modern movie theaters in the South. Main Street Zephyrhills acquired the Home Theater on May 24, 2024, for $667,000. Those funds were obtained during the 2023 Florida Legislative Session. State Sen. Danny Burgess, R-District 23, and State Rep. Randy Maggard, R-District 54, sponsored the state allocations for the purchase of the Home Theater.
The presentation highlighted early architectural design concepts aimed at revitalizing the historic theatre property in downtown Zephyrhills. Concepts include a renovated performance venue, modern gathering spaces, and rooftop event areas designed to enhance downtown activity and support community events. Main Street Zephyrhills presented the conceptual vision and discussed how this landmark project could help strengthen the downtown Zephyrhills historic district as a destination for arts, entertainment, and community gatherings.
Once completed, the Home Theatre would serve as the East Pasco Cultural Arts Center, providing a dedicated space for performances, cultural programming, and community events. The renderings, which were provided by KMF Architects based in Orlando, represent the early stages of the project’s planning and design process. Main Street Zephyrhills will soon be launching a fundraising campaign to support the project and engage community partners in bringing the vision to life.
ABOUT THE HISTORIC HOME THEATER BUILDING
The old Home Theater, located at 38521 5th Avenue, was built by lumber magnate and former mayor I.A. Krusen. It featured comfortable seating, a wide stage, and a glass-enclosed “crying room” for cranky babies. The theater closed in 2007.
