EAST PASCO COUNTY Proudly Celebrated America’s 250th Birthday
Independence Day brought a truly historic celebration to East Pasco. Residents and visitors gathered for America’s 250th Birthday during the East Pasco America’s 250th Celebration at the Dan Cannon Auditorium at the Pasco County Fairgrounds. With dual stage festivities, patriotic ceremonies, live music, and free cupcakes, the community marked the milestone with pride and togetherness—before capping the night off with a free fireworks grand finale at John S. Burks Memorial Park.
Although heavy rain forced the program indoors, the event never lost its spirit, thanks to the City of Dade City and the energy of everyone involved. Hosted by the Echebucsassa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and chaired by Karen Gaskin, the evening included the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard, performances by talented local student musicians and vocalists, and readings from the Declaration of Independence by East Pasco elementary students. The celebration also featured a nationwide Liberty Bell Ringing Ceremony, with bells ringing across East Pasco, along with recognition of veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and Gold Star and Blue Star families honoring the enduring strength of the nation.
One of the highlights was the inspiring performance by the St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church Men’s Chorus, led by Pastor Brian Butler, whose powerful patriotic selections filled the auditorium with excitement and heartfelt applause. Jeff Hart followed with “God Bless the USA,” a performance that moved many in attendance, and Stephanie Morrow later led a community sing-along of America’s favorite patriotic songs—accompanied by the East Pasco student concert band—to bring everyone even closer together.
Mayor Pro Tem Normita Woodard served as the featured guest speaker, offering a powerful reflection on America’s history and encouragement as the community and nation continue pursuing equality and justice for all. Official proclamations were presented to the Echebucsassa Chapter of the DAR by Mayor Scott Black and Councilman Steve Spina, and Bob Hatfield, representing Congressman Gus Bilirakis, presented a Congressional Record honoring the occasion and the DAR’s commitment to preserving America’s history and heritage. A special salute was also given to Pete Brock, an honored World War II U.S. Navy veteran and centenarian who served in the Pacific Theater, a living reminder of the courage and sacrifice of the Greatest Generation.
Before heading to John S. Burks Park, guests enjoyed patriotic cupcakes provided by the Dade City Farmhouse Cafe, and the night concluded with community vendors and an unforgettable fireworks display. Special thanks were extended to Pasco County, the City of Dade City, the Dade City Police Department, the Dade City Police Explorers, Christian Edge, and the Dade City Center for the Arts for showcasing artwork from local artists. Gratitude was also given to Bruce Edwards for professional sound and engineering, and to Filmenti for producing event shirts, posters, and promotional materials.

Kevin Taggerty served as Master of Ceremonies, and from the Liberty Bells ringing across East Pasco to the final burst of fireworks over John S. Burks Park, the evening left many inspired, emotional, and proud to be Americans.
